My name is Jerry Tromp, a 26 year old Game & Media Technology student from The Netherlands. Game Technology is truely one of the most interesting and challenging aspects of Information Technology. It requires you to be intelligent, versatile, creative and a perfectionist, all of which I think suit me quite well. It is amazingly intriguing to read and learn new things on the different subjects like Games AI, Graphics and games development in general.
I finished my study in Computer Science at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam in 2007. My minor was Game Technology, and the whole of my graduation period I focused on the subject of Game Development. I finished my final internship at Little Chicken Game Company, and since the end of april of 2008 I have started to work at Little Chicken part time until the end of that year. Like I said, I’m also doing a study on Game & Media Technology at the University of Utrecht in The Netherlands. This is an MSc track in Computer Science, which focuses completely on Game and Media related software problems.
Computer Games have always been a great part of my life since I was little, when my dad bought a PC with legendary games like Alley Cat, Digger, and later on games like Civilization, Dune II, Wolfenstein 3D, Theme Park and Syndicate. I’m currently the proud owner of a Nintendo Wii, which is a revolutionary console in multiple ways. I also have an XBox 360, which is awesome too. I tend to play a lot of games on my personal computer as well. Strategy Games, First Person Shooters, and certain types of Role Playing Games are my favorite genres of games.
Lately I’ve been picking up on sports. I like to compete in medium distance running events (up to something like 15 km), and I often go to the gym to work out. I’m also a big fan of cycling, and although I currently don’t own a real racing bike I do intend to buy one sooner than later.
Another passion of mine is listening to what I call good music. Music with a certain edge, music which stands out from the crowd. This music could be anything from varying from Jazz to Rock and Metal, and anything in between, as long as its got the edge which makes it stand out from the rest. I love music which is really a blend of different genres, like dance/house and jazz combined; theres no real genre specification, but its absolutely cool. I recently bought a guitar as well which I’m now mastering, and I also have a mixer and a couple of CD players to occasionally play a set in my living room.
I also like to watch movies. My current average on cinema visits is like one time a week. Favorite directors include Robert Rodriquez (Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Sin City, From dusk till dawn), Quentin Tarentino (Pulp Fiction, Resevoir Dogs, Kill Bill), Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral, Miami Vice) and Guy Ritchie (Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Revolver and Layer Cake (which is not really directed by Guy Ritchie though, but by Matthew Vaughn, which is a good friend of Guy Ritchie)).
